BodyTel Scientific Inc. is a German-American company that specializes in telemedical monitoring and management systems for chronic illnesses - especially diabetes.
2. What is the GlucoTel? » top
GlucoTel is a Bluetooth wireless technology enabled blood glucose meter that uses a patient's Bluetooth enabled mobile phone to automatically and wirelessly transmit measured values to an internet accessible database (BodyTel Center).
3. What is the BodyTel Center? » top
The BodyTel Center is the database where all measured or additionally entered values go to and are stored long-term. It can be accessed by a standard internet browser at www.bodytel.com.
4. What is BodyTel Mobile?» top
BodyTel Mobile is a free Java application for use with compatible cell phones. It allows other information such as weight, medication, insulin doses or events such as mealtimes or sports activities to be entered into the phone and sent to the BodyTel Center as well.
5. Does BodyTel Mobile work with all mobile phones? » top
To use a BodyTel product you need a Bluetooth, Java and internet enabled cell phone. Most popular phones are already compatible but there are, however, some phone models which do not support BodyTel Mobile. We are continually working to reduce the number of these exceptions. » Please find the list of officially supported phones here.
6. How do I install BodyTel Mobile? » top
There are different ways to get BodyTel Mobile onto your compatible cell phone. You can either open your cell phone’s web-browser and enter: http://mobile.bodytel.com and download it to your cell phone. OR you could enter www.bodytel.com in your home PC, go to Service & Downloads, enter your cell phone number in an international format and we send you a text message to your phone that contains the download link.
7. How do I uninstall BodyTel Mobile? » top
Just erase the application from your mobile phone by choosing the option ´delete´ in your cell phones program folder.
8. How much costs are involved in the transmission of the values? » top
This depends on your mobile phone contract. Since the use of BodyTel Mobile and the BodyTel Center are free of charge, you only have to pay your mobile phone provider. Data is send via internet connection. The most cost-effective way is a mobile phone contract with a data package flatrate. Please ask your provider for options.
9. Can I use a BodyTel product abroad? Will it still work across any network? » top
Yes, the BodyTel system works everywhere worldwide where you have cell phone coverage.
10. Do I have to pay more for using a BodyTel product abroad? » top
This also depends on your mobile phone contract. You have to consider that data is being sent from a non-domestic network, which could incur additional costs. Please contact your mobile phone provider for that information.
11. How secure are my personal information and body values? » top
By keeping your data in our secured environment in the BodyTel Center, we can protect all personal data from misuse. Only the patient himself can decide whether he or she wants to grant database-access to healthcare professionals or caregivers (e.g. family members). The database provides the same standard of security as is normal today in online banking.
12. How does the Bluetooth wireless technology work? » top
When Bluetooth-enabled devices come within range of one another they automatically communicate with each other. All BodyTel products have built-in Bluetooth modules and can directly communicate with a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone.

13. What is the GlucoTel? » top
The GlucoTel is a Bluetooth wireless technology enabled blood glucose meter that uses a patient's Bluetooth enabled mobile phone to automatically and wirelessly transmit measured values to an internet accessible database (BodyTel Center).
14. How does the GlucoTel work? » top
Just put a strip into it and the meter switches on automatically. Prick your finger and as soon as you apply the blood sample onto the strip the meter starts measuring. After that the blood glucose value is shown on the meter's display and the wireless Bluetooth transmission to the mobile phone is established automatically. When the mobile phone receives the value it automatically sends it further to BodyTel Center (www.bodytel.com).
15. How much blood is required and how long does the reading take? » top
Only 0.65 microliters (650nl) are required and the reading takes 10 seconds.
16. How do I set up the GlucoTel with a cell phone? » top
You have to install BodyTel Mobile on your cell phone and to initially pair the GlucoTel to your phone. The step by step instructions for this pairing process can be found in the Quick Start Guide or in the Product Manual.
17. Does a GlucoTel work with more than one mobile phone in parallel? » top
No. Because of Bluetooth you can only have the GlucoTel paired to one dedicated mobile phone. This ensures your body values only go to your mobile and nowhere else.
18. In case I buy a new phone, will the GlucoTel and BodyTel Mobile work with the new
phone? » top
Yes, as long the new phone is also Bluetooth and Java (J2ME) enabled it will work. You only have to install BodyTel Mobile on the new phone and pair it with the GlucoTel. After that, the GlucoTel sends the values to your new phone.
19. What powers the GlucoTel? » top
The Meter is powered by two AAA-Batteries.
20. What happens if the battery in my GlucoTel dies? » top
If your batteries run low a little battery symbol appears in the lower right corner of the GlucoTel's display. At this stage you can still perform about 30 more measurements till the device is no longer able to operate. Since the memory of the GlucoTel is persistent, you just have to replace the batteries with two fresh AAA batteries.
21. What happens if I am forced to switch off my mobile phone or I am out of Bluetooth wireless technology range? » top
No worries, no value gets lost! If you perform a measurement e.g. in a plane or you forgot your mobile phone at home the GlucoTel's internal memory can store up to 100 values with time and date and transmits them when you switch on your mobile phone again or come back in Bluetooth range.
22. Can I use non-GlucoTel test strips? » top
No. The GlucoTel meter only works with GlucoTel blood glucose test strips.
